Hughes and Coleman College Scholarship Program

Representing the Injured in Kentucky and Tennessee

Arrive Alive

Last year during prom and graduation season, our firm saw an increase in the number of parents who hired us because of drunk driving related injuries sustained by their children. Because of this, Hughes & Coleman was determined to try to bring a level of awareness to children about the dangers of driving or riding with someone under the influence of alcohol. From this determination we have adapted a program called Arrive Alive.

The Arrive Alive Pledge form encourages students to talk with their parents about drinking and driving and to sign a pledge to not drive or ride with anyone when alcohol is present. Students and Parents/Guardians - Make the pledge and . Complete and return the form to Hughes & download our free Pledge Form Coleman, P.O. Box 10120, Bowling Green, KY 42102. Completed cards will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Best Buy Gift Card. You can also Click Here for a compelling video about drinking and driving.

J. Marshall Hughes stated, “We may not be able to stop the students from drinking, but hopefully we can encourage them to make responsible decisions about what to do if they have been drinking.”

Scholarship Program

Four winners were selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Hughes & Coleman. The scholarships, which were to be used at any two- or four-year college, were awarded to the students for essays they wrote regarding the ongoing problems surrounding drinking and driving. Students applying for the scholarships were asked to address the following question:

“Drunk driving by both those who are underage and by young adults, is an ongoing problem in our community. You have been selected to organize your classmates to work with some or all of the following people to combat the issue of drunk driving: the community, business, and religious leaders as well as the police. What message would you want to communicate and to whom? What presentations, changes to existing laws and activities would you suggest be developed?”
