Six Injured In Auto Accident Outside Tullahoma, Tennessee

December 28, 2011

Six people were injured in a car crash near Tullahoma, Tennessee, Monday afternoon. According to Channel 5 News, the accident occurred along a rural stretch of Highway 41 A.

Officers with the Tullahoma police department and the Bedford county sheriff’s department responded to calls of an accident along the highway. When they arrived, they found a wrecked car and several passengers who had been ejected from the vehicle. Rescuers found two young children, ages 4 and 5, still inside the vehicle. They both had broken legs and were immediately taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. The four adults were all taken to Horton Hospital in Tullahoma for treatment.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that motor vehicle crashes are the most common cause of death for individuals between the ages of 5 and 34. They estimate that more than 2.3 million people were injured across the country in 2009 as a result of car crashes. In the event of a collision, wearing a seat belt can reduce your risk of injury or death by up to 75 percent.

The Tennessee auto accident attorneys with Hughes and Coleman Injury Lawyers recently discussed the importance of seat belts and tips on safe use in a recent online interview.

Tennessee Teen Warns Others Against Taking YAZ® Birth Control Pills

December 21, 2011

A 19-year-old White Bluff, Tennessee, woman is using her story to warn others of the risks of taking the birth control pill, YAZ®. According to MSNBC News, she suffered from a severe blood clot in her lung several years ago after she started taking the medication to help with painful menstrual cramping.

The woman says that three years ago she started taking the medication and almost immediately began to feel the side effects. She says that she was constantly throwing up and it was getting harder to breathe by the day. Finally, when she began to have terrible chest pains, she went to the hospital where doctors were puzzled by her condition. Nearly a year later and numerous visits to different hospitals and specialists, doctors made a connection between the blood clot they found in her lung and her usage of YAZ®.

Now, the woman has joined nearly 10,000 other women nationwide who are suing the drug’s maker because of similar complications. She says her condition has cost her the ability to get a free college education by scholarship at a prestigious university and must live with the condition, as surgery to remove the clot is too dangerous.

The Tennessee YAZ® Drug Injury Lawyers with Hughes & Coleman say some of the other conditions associated with YAZ® include:

  • Strokes
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Pulmonary Embolism
  • Heart Attack

The firm recently discussed these and other dangers that could possibly be associated with the drug in a recent commercial.

TDOT Investigates 55-Car Pileup Outside Nashville

December 14, 2011

Officials with The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced yesterday they would examine a stretch of road in Nashville where earlier this month, two people died and 18 were injured in a 55-car pile up. According to Channel 5 News, investigators want to determine what changes could be made to the highway and the response procedures of emergency crews in order to prevent a similar chain of collisions in the future.

The Accident occurred December first on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard, just south of Hendersonville. Hendersonville Police said that dense fog and icy patches were to blame for the 50-car pile up. One man died at the scene after his vehicle rear-ended a mail truck. Another man died after leaving the scene and checking into an emergency room. 18 others sought treatment for minor injuries in connection with the crash.

Hendersonville police told TDOT officials that one improvement rescuers could make is to ensure all emergency responders are on the same radio frequency at an accident scene. Officers commented that crews from different areas that came to help were all on different radio frequencies, which made communication difficult and added confusion to the already hectic scene.

The Tennessee Auto Accident Attorneys with Hughes and Coleman have a great understanding of how to handle the fallout of a crash involving numerous vehicles. Founding attorney, J. Marshall Hughes, recently discussed what to do after a car crash in an online interview.

Tennessee Accident Victims Plagued By Solicitation Calls

December 7, 2011

Car accident victims across the state of Tennessee have enough to deal with handling claims for repairs, medical expenses, and insurance without being hassled by business solicitors. Unfortunately, News Channel 4 uncovered the disturbing story of a victim’s information being retrieved from accident reports by multiple telemarketing agencies.

It all began when a Nashville, Tennessee, man was involved in an early November accident, in which no one was hurt. Days later, he began receiving phone calls from what sounded like non-profit victim advocate groups. As he began to track the numbers online, he found the calls were coming from various telemarketer groups trying to get referrals for a chiropractor, who would then refer the victim to a lawyer. One of the businesses attempting the scam was Westgate Health Services Capitol Branch–also known as Capitol Chiropractic–based in Nashville.

There is nothing illegal about telemarketers getting numbers from accident reports. But by law, they must wait thirty days to call the victims. The state board said they have disciplined several chiropractic practices in the past for this infraction and will look into the new allegations.

The Tennessee Auto Accident Attorneys with Hughes and Coleman have a team of experienced attorneys available to help guide accident victims who have been hurt at no fault of their own.
