The Courier-Journal reported that three more lawsuits have been filed in a Kentucky environmental lawsuit concerning a train derailment almost a year ago.

Nine lawsuits have been filed to date concerning the Louisville environmental harm incident, including one seeking class-action status.

The lawsuits state that CSX was negligent in the Jan. 16, 2007 crash in failing to warn residents of potential danger in a timely manner after the accident. About 500 residents were evacuated, some taken to hospitals, when a train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed and spread a thick, black smoke across several miles.

Although the National Transportation Safety Board has yet to issue an official cause of the derailment that caused the Kentucky environmental damage, CSX has put the blame on a bolt.

State climate fosters Tennessee environmental injuries from mold

admin October 1st, 2007

The Tennessean reported that several tenants and home owners in Tennessee may be suffering environmental injuries from unhealthy mold in their homes. Tennessee environmental injuries from mold exposure happen frequently because the humid climate is ideal for mold to grow.

Cathy Thompson suffered enough environmental injuries from mold in her apartment to cost her at least $1,000 in medical bills, inhalers, and medications. Her symptoms included frequent headaches, sinus infections, and bouts of bronchitis. Other symptoms of environmental injuries from mold can include sinus problems, fatigue, headaches, nosebleeds, skin rashes, and persistent coughing.

Eliminating exposure to mold to avoid Tennessee environmental injuries can be difficult because simply cleaning isn’t sufficient. Often, experts will need to be called in to rid an apartment or home of mold from a water source.
