In separate incidents, two die in Louisville car accidents

The Courier-Journal reported that two people died in Louisville car accidents Monday, and five others were injured. The chief of the Forest Hills Police Department was one of the two Kentucky auto accident victims.

The chief of police died while blocking traffic for construction crews when a box truck slammed into his Camaro. The Louisville car accident happened about 2 p.m. and his emergency lights were on. Two construction workers were received minor auto accident injuries in the crash.

In another crash on Interstate 65 around 1 p.m., a woman hit the median and flipped over in her car. A tractor-trailer driver stopped to help but was hit by a vehicle while crossing the highway on foot. The woman was taken to the hospital for her Kentucky auto accident injuries, and a baby in her vehicle appeared to have been unharmed.

Mother files wrongful death lawsuit in meningitis death of daughter

The mother of a student who died from a case of bacterial meningitis has filed a Tennessee wrongful death suit against the hospital that was treating her daughter, according to the Tennessean.

The mother claims the hospital was negligent and failed to administer potentially life-saving antibiotics to her daughter. The wrongful death lawsuit seeks $10 million in damages and court costs.

Woman dies in Tennessee auto accident

The Tennessean reported that a woman died in a Tennessee car accident after her tire blew out, forcing her vehicle to go into the median and roll over twice.

The auto accident victim was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car, landing on the left lane of the interstate, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report.

Police said a safety belt could have saved her life.

Death of patient leads to investigation of local nursing homes

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that a non-diabetic Louisville nursing home resident died after an unnecessary insulin injection. The nursing home patient’s death brought about the interest of an attorney general, who is investigated similar deaths for nursing home neglect and abuse.

The investigation is being headed by the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation out of the attorney general’s office. As many as five deaths in local nursing homes are being reviewed for potential nursing neglect and abuse.

Man suffers fire and burn injuries in Old Louisville blaze

The Louisville Courier-Journal reported that three people escaped an old burning building in Old Louisville Monday night around 2:20 a.m.

One Louisville fire and burn injury victim was helped down a ladder by firefighters, while the other two jumped from the second-story window and were caught by firefighters on the ground.

The building suffered extensive fire damage and the man brought down the ladder was taken to University Hospital to be treated for his Kentucky fire and burn injuries.
