Scooter Driver Dies in North Nashville Crash
May 17, 2011
A downed tree and a mangled scooter lay motionless in the road. They are all that remain after an early morning crash on Brick Church Lane in north Nashville.
WSMV-TV reported that around 4AM on May 13, 2011, the driver of the scooter crashed into a downed tree. He was then thrown from the scooter and landed on a downed power line. Metro police were quoted as saying “We’re not sure why he didn’t see the tree, whether it was bad lighting on his vehicle or some other issue.” The 25-year-old driver died at the scene.
With the extreme weather in the Middle Tennessee area, more accidents involving downed power lines and trees could be expected. The Tennessee Department of Safety is reporting trees as one of the top five fixed objects drivers crash into. Metro police have asked drivers to report any blockages you find in a roadway, from trees to floodwaters.
What else can you do to keep yourself safe from accidents with obstacles in the roads?
- Slow down.
- Always wear your seatbelt or helmet if you are on a motorcycle.
- If you come to an obstacle in the roadway, turn around and go around it on another road.
Like the old saying goes, “Better safe than sorry.”
