Yaz®

Since 2006 Yaz® birth control has been on the market. Yaz® is taken orally daily to prevent pregnancy. Yaz® is considered one of the most popular oral contraceptives available. It is manufactured by Bayer and in addition to its use as a birth control, it is also used to treat emotional and physical symptoms associated with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, and acne. If you are one of the women who took is taking Yaz®, you need to be aware of the serious scrutiny this drug has come under. Yasmin or Yaz® has been associated with significant serious side effects. 

 

Adverse Yaz® Side Effects

The following adverse effects have been associated with Yaz®, Yasmin® and Ocella® use:

•   Heart attack   •   Stroke    •   Deep vein thrombosis    •   Pulmonary embolism
•   Pain behind the eyes •   Jaundice •   Cardiovascular complications •   Sudden numbness or confusion
•   Problems with balance •   Depression       •   Problems with vision or speech •   Gallbladder disease
•   Nausea, and feeling ill •   Death •   A change in your migraine severity           •   Loss of appetite and/or stomach pain
•   Cancer specifically an increases risk of cervical cancer         •   Chest pain or pain which spreads to the arm or shoulder

 

The risks associated with vascular side effects is significantly higher if you are smoke, are over the age of 35, have high blood pressure, or you have a history of vascular disease. 

If you are taking Yaz® and experience heat, swelling, or pain in the lower extremities, or you experience chest pain or trouble breathing seek immediate medical help. 

 

Yaz® Studies

The British Medical Journal released a report indicating blood clots in Yaz® and Yasmin® are as frequent as with third generation birth control pills. Third generation pills had an established warning for blood clots, but Yaz and Yasmin did not yet have such a warning.

The FDA released results from a study that with more than 800,000 American women taking various forms of birth control between 2001 and 2007. The research revealed that women taking Yaz® had a 75% greater risk of getting a blood clot than women who were taking older forms of birth control pills.

Elevated Potassium Levels - Yaz® is linked to hyperkalemia, a condition that describes abnormal levels of potassium in the bloodstream, which can lead to fatal arrhythmias. 

Heart Attack, Stroke, and Blood Clots - Yaz® presents an increased risk of heart attack, blood clots, and stroke in users. 

 

Quality Control Issues

U.S. health regulators warned the manufacturer of Yaz® about its quality control issues at a plant that makes several of the ingredients in Yaz®. According to the FDA, inspectors found testing problems at the company's plant in Berghamen, Germany, specifically with Yaz's main ingredient, drospirenone.
