How Can We Help?

DAVID KOON

“The journey to full justice begins with spending time with your client, getting to know them, caring about them, and finding and understanding the human story. Only then can you tell the human story.”

Dave practices law by getting to know his clients. He understands that spending time with the client outside of the office, where the client lives and meeting with the client’s family and friends, is the only way to learn the real human story. While insurance companies and corporations see a file or collection of medical records, Dave sees the person whose hopes, dreams, and families have be disrupted or destroyed by the misconduct of others.

Dave uses his unique background and experiences to represent regular people harmed by others. He seeks to change the world one case at a time, helping his clients find justice. He has extensive courtroom experience as a military Judge Advocate, as a public defender, and as a private practice attorney.

Born in southeastern Ohio, Dave grew up in the Appalachian region. After high school, he wanted to experience more of the world, and decided to enlist in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman.

With a military career spanning two decades, Dave retired in February 2023 as a lieutenant colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the Tennessee Army National Guard. During his military career, Dave worked on cutting edge military victims’ rights law at National Guard Bureau, leading the team of Army and Air Force lawyers and paralegals in the south United States that represented sexual assault survivors, who were members, or their dependents, of the National Guard. Dave was a member of the advisory group to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Independent Review Commission on Sexual Assaults. He was a frequent speaker, including presenting at the National Crime Victim Law Conference (2017, 2019, and 2020) and the National Organization for Victim Assistance Annual Training (2018).

He spent several tours as defense counsel, representing servicemembers accused of military crimes. Dave also served as the Task Force Warrior Judge Advocate with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.

Additionally, Dave spent almost 23 years working in all levels of the claims department and as in-house counsel with a national insurance company. He completed a graduate degree in business and his law degree while working for the insurance company. Additionally, he earned several insurance-related professional designations, including the Associate in Claims designation (The Institutes), the Associate in Management designation (The Institutes), Senior Claim Law Associate designation (American Educational Institute), and the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter designation (Professional Liability Underwriting Society).

Dave lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky with his wife, Donna.
