Teaming Up with WKU Athletics

“Stand up and cheer for dear old Western!” The Western Kentucky University athletics department welcomed its mascot, Big Red in 1979. Designed by Ralph Carey, Big Red has been a staple at events throughout WKU. He even won the highest honor for mascots, the “Key to Spirit” award, and he even made the final four of ESPN’s “Battle of the Mascots.”
