Alert: Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers Secured a $125,000 Settlement for Warren County Woman

Hughes and Coleman Injury Lawyers of Kentucky successfully secured a $125,000 settlement for a woman injured in a sideswipe collision on Elrod Road in Bowling Green. Out of respect of the victim’s privacy, we will refer to her as “Mrs. C” throughout this article.

How Did the Bowling Green Sideswipe Wreck Occur?

It was a rainy day in Bowling Green on May 16th, 2023. Mrs. C, our client, and her husband were headed home from her doctor’s appointment when the rain really started to pour. You see, two weeks prior to the accident, Mrs. C had brain surgery to remove a tumor. As expected, her recovery plan required several follow-up doctor appointments, and one of those appointments fell on this day. With lower visibility due to the rain, Mrs. C’s husband, the driver of the vehicle, knew the big curve on Elrod Road was coming up and that he should probably take it slow around the corner. Despite his vigilance, something else occurred that Tuesday afternoon.

As Mrs. C’s vehicle approached the curve, that same Saturn Ion approached from the opposite direction. Unfortunately, the driver of the Saturn Ion (the Defendant) was unable to slow his vehicle down, took the curve a little too sharply, and sideswiped the vehicle Mrs. C and her husband were in.

The collision ran our client’s car off the road, deploying the side airbags. Police arrived at the scene as the rain continued to pour down.

What Injuries Were Sustained in the Sideswipe Wreck?

While Mrs. C’s husband, who was driving the vehicle, didn’t sustain any injuries, Mrs. C knew immediately that she needed to seek medical treatment. Still healing from invasive brain surgery from two weeks before, any complications the accident may have added to her healing process would need to be analyzed as soon as possible.

Although she refused to go in the ambulance, Mrs. C did go to the hospital immediately following the accident. There, she learned that the deployment of the airbags caused a leak in her cerebrospinal fluid, a concussion, edema, a pseudomeningocele, and a traumatic head injury.

How Did the Hughes & Coleman Team Help?

Mrs. C contacted the Hughes and Coleman intake team, and we took detailed notes on her story. Given that she was recovering from surgery, it was important for us to understand how her injuries could have stalled her surgical recovery. The Hughes and Coleman intake team connected Mrs. C with a Bowling Green car accident lawyer who knew exactly how to calculate Mrs. C’s damages.

The injury attorney discussed Mrs. C’s injuries in great detail, documenting her medical bills, wage information, pain and suffering, and loss of consortium. Our attorney also combed through all of the additional evidence of the case, including the police report, to get a detailed story of how the accident occurred and how the injury affected the victim.

Next, the attorney drafted a demand letter to the insurance company that included the details of the sideswipe accident, the injuries that Mrs. C suffered, and a breakdown of Mrs. C’s damages. After receiving the demand letter, the insurance company gave Mrs. C a policy limits offer of $25,000.

Because Mrs. C’s damages were beyond the $25,000 mark, our experienced legal team contacted her insurance company to cover an additional $100,000 for Underinsured Motorist (UIM) protection. The Hughes & Coleman was able to secure $125,000 for our client from the defendant’s insurance company, and $10,000 from her own PIP insurance.
